Changing five settings at once tells you nothing about which one worked
A forum thread on a print-quality symptom often produces a pile of suggestions: lower the temperature, change the fan speed, adjust retraction, slow down. Applying all of them at once might fix the symptom, but leaves you no wiser about which change actually mattered, so the next time it happens you are back to guessing. This tool returns one variable to test first for a given symptom, based on which cause is statistically the most common culprit for that specific symptom.
How the triage works
Each symptom, stringing, poor layer adhesion, blobs, warping, or rough overhangs, maps to its most likely first variable to test: temperature and retraction for stringing, temperature and cooling for adhesion, pressure timing for blobs, bed temperature and draft control for warping, and fan speed plus print speed for rough overhangs. The material you select shapes how much caution the result recommends, since ABS/ASA and Nylon are more temperature- and draft-sensitive than PLA or PETG.
Worked example
Stringing on PLA: the tool recommends testing nozzle temperature first, in 5 C steps down, since stringing is most often a too-hot nozzle, and only tuning retraction distance and speed afterward if lowering temperature does not resolve it, so you know exactly which change fixed the problem if it does.
A common mistake
A frequent error is testing a settings change on a small, quick sample and then assuming it holds on a much larger or longer print. A temperature or cooling adjustment that looks perfect on a five-minute test cube can still drift or fail differently over a multi-hour print, as the hotend, bed, and ambient conditions all settle into their real steady state. Confirm any fix on a print closer to your actual production length before trusting it fully.
Limitations
This returns a constrained, one-variable-at-a-time test sequence based on the symptom and material you selected; it cannot see your printer and does not guarantee a specific setting change will resolve your specific case. Treat it as a starting point for testing, not a diagnosis.
